It's been a while [Nov. 25th, 2005|08:57 pm]
So I though, why the hell not update? I'm sitting here with both knee injured, I can barely turn my pedals. I've screwed up my petellar tendons so I'm out for a while.. shitty news considering I was gonna hit up some major miles this week. This is the first weekend in over a year where I'm not going to go for a ride. Kinda hard to think of like that but it's true...
Anyways! I'm liking the "no school" approach to life, but it's inevitable that I have to go back... I'm just takin my sweet time.
Last weekend Dave Zabriskie came to town. He's a pro cyclist who beat Lance Armstrong stage 1 of the Tour de France in a time trial (almost impossible to do). He got to wear the leader's jersey for 3 days until he crashed and lost it... tough luck

No, I'm not dead... [Oct. 1st, 2005|10:37 pm]
So finally an update! Sorry it's only writing but my dad's got the camera up in the Queen Charlottes.
Bikings going well, and I'm logging some good kms. Wednesday I went out alone for a 190km ride. I'm trying to make that type of distance a "short" ride so I'll be ready for the over-200km races. CAN'T WAIT. Do hafta admit though, it does get lonely after 6-8 hours on a bike.

I've also been doing a lot of test like x-rays and ultrasounds. I have a little thing with my heart my doctor wanted to check out since it's put under so much stress cycling. Just waiting for the results. The two nurses who did my echocardiogram were SOOOO HOT!!! but that's beside the point. It also looks like I may have had a big virus for the whole of august, which explains some of my crappy performances. I can't seem to go a week without getting sick these days.

I got a job at a bike company called Giga-BIke. They're sponsoring our team to it seems right to get my foot in the door there. I'm also applying to Thrifty's to work nights. Biking's way too expensive and I need at least some financial independence... right??!?!

Another hobby I've taken up (don't laugh), is sewing... I'm now sewing shoe covers for cycling and it's pretty good money. Don't count on it for long though... I'd hate to make a job out of it

The plan for the next few weeks?: Ride, ride ride. Just get base miles in and about 20-25hrs in the saddle per week. It's gonna suck since the weather's turning to the shits right now.

Hope everyone's university lives are treating them well! I miss you all and can't stop thinking about how much fun we all had together.

Later

So I'm back. The race did NOT go as planned but don't worry, there's a good excuse. I'll do a good entry and I have over 400 shots. I need time to filter out the "inappropriate" ones....

Im here in Abitibi and its pretty crazy. There are 27 teams and they include ones from Belgium, Japan, France, Columbia, USA and Canada; over 160 riders. We started last night with a mini crit and it was FAST. Im pretty sure I placed top 30 but Im in no way a sprinter. Some of these guys are huge! Today was a team time trial where the team rides together for 17 km. We were 9th to start off and we finished 5th overall behind the Canadian National team and some fast USA group. Last year we placed 24th so its a big relief to do so well even though we only finished with 3 riders (we started with 6). Tonight is another 25 lap criterium. Our team is just trying to stay out of crashes and keep near the front. Its such a fun race!

Wow I'm so unprepared right now! I'm leaving for Quebed today in about an hour and I THINK I have everything, but I don't know. Half of it is packed up in two bike boxes. I swear, packing a bike is like making your car fit into your trunk... and I've had to pack two.
This year at Abitibi I hope to do a little better since we have a pretty strong team. Last year I placed 59th of 180 so I'm aiming to at least better than that. It's 700km over 6 days so it's pretty harsh on the legs.

If you wanna keep track, they have a website that posts results and pictures everyday from the day's stages.

See you in a week and a half!

So today actually makes me feel sick. Has anyone else noticed that we haven't had a single nice day from sunrise to sunset this summer? It's always cloudy in the morning or in the afternoon. This is actually getting me down. So anywyas, I thought why not put some pictures up.
I'm heading off for Nationals tomorrow morning in Kamloops. Thursday is the time trial and then Saturday is the road race. My friends and I are seriously going wild sat night! Let's hope all the preperation works out since these races need to go well if I'm going to get on the National Team.

IT'S ALL OVER!!!!!!!!!!!! [Jun. 28th, 2005|10:11 pm]
Wow, most significant day of my life thus far. I can't believe it's over and with Physics finally finished (and getting totally brutalized by it), it's finally sunk in. THERE'S NO MORE HIGH SCHOOL! Thanks everyone for all the good times, memories and undoubtebly the most fun years of my life. Enough halmark talk.
The ceremony was NOT emotional. Mr. Snowden brought out the "donor" speech again but I think we let him know how much we like him.

Got some pictures from the weekend. So Friday was Gavin's Birthday party. Lots of fun! All the videos, pictues, I can't wait to see them.
Then on Saturday I headed over to Van to stay with my sister. Turns out she lives on the race course... fancy that! I didn't bring my camera but there were lots of professional photographers out there. Get ready to see some hilariously disgustingly ugly shots of me on a bike!

So I raced on sunday most likely the hardest race I've ever done. I raced with the pro men again and out of the 66 startes, only 14 finished. About 30 people dropped out, the rest of us were told to stop because although we were racing, there were about 10 guys ahead who were about to lap us.
Each lap (there were 14), there was an elevation gain of over 200m. That's like going up Mt. Tolmie 2 times each lap.... We were glad when they told us to stop with 3 laps to go. It was crazy....

Wow, no more classes. It's hard to believe nut it's true! I know don't say it enough but I'm so thankful for you guys. You've made life at school livable and enjoyable. I can't thank you enough!
So here are the pictures.

I'm almost done my supplement pages. Not nearly as many pics as everyone else but I'm trying to think of filler for the voids.

[music |Hide and Seek- Imogen Heap (again!)]

So I couldn't get to Allie's tonight because my sister was moving. It's wierd how easily you can get suckered into helping out.... I swear I do need to get out more. The last time I did something with people that wasn't bike related was before the May long-weekend.
Note to self: GET A LIFE!!!!!
Last weekend was pretty cool. After provincials there was Bastion Square where Natalia, Justin, Gavin and the fatest girl in the world (Melissa by her other name) came out to watch. They were by far the best cheergroup I've ever had. Here are pictures from the weekend:

Just resting up right now. I won the provincial championships today! It was 112km, not long but it had sooooo many big big hills. I attacked with 20km to go. I got $50, a medal and a BC Champion jersey. I'll get some pics because there were motorbikes all over the place taking them.
I've put up what the course profile looked like. The red line is the altitude so you can really see the hills.
Check out the stats )

I watched the OC!!!! [May. 19th, 2005|09:57 pm]
Tonight was the first time I watched a whole episode of the OC and it was SOOOOO GOOOOD!!!!!!!!! I am now completely in love with Rachel Bilson! And when Marisa shot Trey, that was so shocking (thanks jess for the heads-up). It was sad too but just surprising that she'd do that.
Anyways, my sister and I found my dad's old McGill year book from 1970. He was 29 when this shot was taken and was graduating from Med. School. My dad minus 35 years )
